Friday, 26 December 2008 00:31:13 UTC ( Tools )

The Early Access Program for ReSharper v4.5 just started and nightly builds are available for download. Keep in mind that these are not official beta releases, but automated builds straight from the development branch. The current release has a few very useful features as well as performance and memory optimizations.

Solution-wide analysis has been updated with unused code detection that will highlight unneeded code segments throughout your solution. If you have a layered architecture with multiple solutions you will have to up a new solution that includes all your projects for this to work correctly. If you are doing some Christmas cleaning you may want take these new bits for a spin. It also features a much more flexible naming standard configuration.

Tired of all the UAC prompts?
Sunday, 12 October 2008 10:23:59 UTC ( Security | Tools )

Norton Labs have created a utility that removes a lot the UAC annoyances you may be experiencing in Windows Vista. It allows you to configure a list of applications that can be launched in admin mode without incurring a UAC prompt, basically a “do not ask me again” dialog. Great for everyday applications like Visual Studio.

May be a better solution than disabling it completely ;)

There is one caveat though, it will send information to Norton whenever you get a prompt. It will send the filename and hash of the files involved, as well as your response. The intention is to create a white list that will be shipped with the finished product.

There is a free beta version and a FAQ available at Norton Labs, both X86 and X64 editions.

WCF Compression Filter
Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:48:04 UTC ( Indigo | Tools | WSE )

Some time back a coworker and I released a sample compression filter for WSE 2.0 nicknamed “WS-Compression”, this sample was later enhanced and finally converted to a WSE 3.0 compliant filter.

As it turns it has further evolved into a WCF compression filter available from this blog post.

Interesting how things work out!

WCF Adapter for BizTalk Server 2006
Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:38:43 UTC ( BizTalk Server | Indigo | Tools )

My original prototype Indigo adapter for BizTalk Server 2004 has evolved and is now available as a community project on GotDotNet. The current version runs under BizTalk Server 2006 and WinFX January CTP; the most recent WCF build available with a go-live license.

Both source code and binaries are available in the downloads section; either you just want to take it for a spin or help out with the development.

Indigo Adapter for BizTalk Server 2004 - First Sightings
Tuesday, 05 April 2005 20:59:30 UTC ( BizTalk Server | Indigo | Tools )

As I mentioned briefly before, I’m currently working on a prototype Indigo adapter for BizTalk Server 2004. I’ve uploaded a early drop based on the Indigo March CTP, so if you have an extra VPC image available and some spare time then give it a shot.

Once again, this is an early prototype implementation. Not all of the configuration settings work and not all of them make sense in every context.

And of course, these binaries are provided without support or warranty of any kind.

WSE: Another Compression Filters Update!
Thursday, 16 September 2004 19:55:39 UTC ( Security | Tools | WSE )

It is great to see that someone has a taken an interest in the WSE compression filters I’ve been working on. Rodolfo Finochietti has added several new features to the code base.

  • Compress attachments
  • More algorithms (Deflate, Zip)
  • Compression level (set through compression context)
  • Threshold. Compresses according to the minimum message size (body size plus all attachments size)
  • Several other improvements and code cleaning.

This is really exciting news. Great work Rodolfo!

You find a list of download links here, or you can download it directly from this link.

    WSE: Compression Filters Update
    Wednesday, 28 July 2004 18:21:46 UTC ( Tools | WSE )

I released some sample code for a WSE compression filter a few months back, and I have recently updated the code to be more in tune with the look and feel of the WSE extension model.

Since the initial release, I have submitted the code to the Plumbwork Orange project on GotDotNet. If you are looking for the most up-to-date version then that is definitely the place you would want to look. I have also made a snapshot of just the compression code available for download here.

    Enjoy.

This SOAP compression extension is an implementation of an idea by Martin Valland and me, and it is in no way an official specification controlled by a standards body.

This is a prototype implementation and it comes without warranty of any kind.

    WSE: Compression Filters
    Wednesday, 03 March 2004 19:08:59 UTC ( Tools | WSE )

Matthew Lynn asked for the WSE compression filter code, and here it is.

My colleague Martin Valland and I wrote this code based on an idea we had for a compression specification for web services. This implementation as well as the SOAP extensions it relies upon is proprietary. As far as I know there is currently no publicly available specification that addresses this particular subject.

The code relies upon #ziplib for the compression algorithms.

This is a prototype implementation and it comes without warranty of any kind.

    TweakDotNet v0.2 Released
    Sunday, 15 February 2004 19:40:26 UTC ( Tools )

I have fixed some small issues with TweakDotNet and released a new version. TweakDotNet is a small and simple program that lets you choose the default source control provider as well as edit the assembly folders used by Visual Studio.Net.

TweakDotNet v0.2 is available for download at its GotDotNet workspace.

    TweakDotNet v0.1 Alpha
    Saturday, 16 August 2003 11:30:43 UTC ( Tools )

I’ve opened up a GotDotNet Workspace for a small pet project of mine. TweakDotNet is a configuration utility that lets you change source control providers and configure assembly folders. I know there are tools out there to do these things already, but I wanted a single extensible program where I could add this sort of functionality as ideas popped into my head.

If you need that sort of functionality or simply just want a new tool for your toolbox then give it a try :)
